Sports Activities to Practise in Finistère

While Finistère has nothing to envy from other regions, given how much the beauty of its landscapes and its wild nature have to offer. It is also a department that offers many activities to do with family or friends. From water sports to a helicopter first flight, including tree climbing, here is a selection of sports activities to practise in Finistère.

Helicopter First Flight in Quimper

Treat yourself to a helicopter first flight to discover Brittany and its breathtaking landscapes from the sky. Accompanied by an experienced pilot, you will take off from the Quimper heliport and fly over the entire Breton coast and its wonders. An opportunity to take superb photos and leave with an unforgettable memory of your first helicopter flight.

On the programme:

You will join the team on the tarmac of Quimper-Brittany Airport, which is located southwest of Quimper. There, you will attend a briefing, during which the pilot will introduce you to the helicopter in which you are going to fly. He will also explain all the safety instructions before boarding. The pilot will then seat you in the aircraft and provide you with a headset that will allow you to communicate with him throughout the flight. You will then take off towards the destination of your choice and return to land at the same airfield.

For your helicopter first flight departing from Quimper, you have the choice between three possible routes.

Douarnenez Bay

During the 15-minute flight, you will fly over the bay of Douarnenez. You will have the opportunity to see Fort Napoleon III, which is located on Tristan Island, situated 200 m opposite the port of Douarnenez. You will then fly over Tréboul, which is a former fishing port. Finally, you will pass over a superb coastal path called Les Roches Blanches.

The Glénan

During this 25-minute flight, you will fly over the Odet River from Quimper to Bénodet. You will then fly over the Glénan archipelago, which is made up of around a dozen wild islets surrounded by translucent water with turquoise reflections. Then you will finish this first flight by flying over the fishing port of Loctudy.

Pointe du Raz

During this first flight, which lasts 50 minutes, you will first fly over the Odet, Bénodet and Loctudy, then you will fly towards Le Guilvinec, France's fourth-largest fishing port. You will then fly over Penmarch, a small town lost at the end of the world, before heading north towards the port of Audierne, located only a short distance from Pointe du Raz. From this place, you will have a panoramic view of the Atlantic coast. Then you will finish your route with a flight between Sein Island, Tévennec and the Bay of the Dead, which offers magnificent landscapes with its cliffs overlooking Pointe du Van.

Jet Ski Ride near Quimper - Loctudy Beach in Brittany

And why not go on a Jet Ski ride? Located around twenty kilometres south of Quimper, the Loctudy Jet Ski base offers you a ride along the coasts of Finistère. From the Loctudy marina to Bénodet Bay, 12 km of rocky headlands and white sandy beaches await you along this route.

How the outing takes place:

After welcoming the participants and signing the contracts, life jackets will be handed out to you. Then a safety briefing will take place during which all the safety and navigation instructions will be given to you. The operation of the machines will also be explained to you. And finally, you will be able to head out to sea for a superb Jet Ski ride.

Tree Climbing in Crozon - Brittany

Located on the Crozon Peninsula, the Accrobranche Fun Park offers an immersive experience in the heart of nature with its many courses suited to all levels. From the top of its platforms perched in the trees, you will be able to progress at your own pace through a variety of games and workshops that will take you to new heights in complete safety.

Surf Lessons or Course in Crozon

The Crozon Peninsula is a magnificent and preserved place. The white sandy beaches mixed with rocky headlands delight swimmers and hikers, but it is also a very popular spot among surfing enthusiasts.

The surf school offers lessons both to beginner surfers to teach them the basics so that they can then surf independently, and to more experienced surfers to help them improve their technique and their knowledge of the seabed.

Each lesson therefore begins at the premises, where the weather conditions are first checked in order to choose the best spot of the day. Once on the beach, the instructor will of course remind everyone of all the safety instructions. The lessons take place in small groups of 3 to 8 people with common or individual objectives depending on the different levels.

Beginners will be equipped with Bic foam boards measuring from 6 to 8 feet. These boards are perfectly suited to beginner surfers since they limit the risk of impact. More experienced surfers, for their part, will have smaller resin boards with more aggressive shapes that will allow them to progress and discover new sensations.  

The first exercises will consist of gliding while lying down, then gradually standing up on the board.

Several packages are available and you will therefore be able to take one or several lessons depending on your level and your wishes. Each lesson lasts an average of 2 hours 30 minutes.

The Surf Spots Used

Each beach is different and has its own characteristics. That is why the lessons are given in different places depending on the weather conditions and the level of the apprentice surfers.

La Palue: Nestled between two rocky headlands, this beach is the best-known surf spot in Crozon. Overlooked offshore by the Guénéron rock, it catches the swell very well. You will therefore be able to surf there in small and medium swells.

Dinan Cove (Goulien): Dinan Cove is made up of several beaches that form a crescent moon. It is located at the end of a large cove that protects it from the swell and the wind. That is why it is ideal in the event of strong winds or heavy swells. In addition, it is possible to move towards the middle, to Kersiguenou Beach, or to take shelter at the northern end on Kerloch Beach.

Kitesurfing Course 2 Minutes from the Campsite

For 15 years, Ronan EVENO has been teaching kitesurfing at his WEST GLISS school, ideally located between Brest and Quimper, in Pentrez/Crozon, near Douarnenez and only 2 minutes from the campsite. Whether you are a beginner or experienced, enjoy lessons suited to your level, supervised by an experienced instructor, at exceptional spots in Brittany, in a preserved natural setting.

Kitesurfing Course near Brest - Lampaul-Ploudalmézeau

Between Brest and Quimper is one of the most beautiful beaches in Brittany. You will be able to discover or improve your kitesurfing practice in the company of a qualified instructor.

Your Kitesurfing Course near Brest

The training day will begin on Trois Moutons Beach in Lampaul-Ploudalmézeau. The site where the course takes place may sometimes be different depending on the weather. It may, for example, take place on Sainte-Marguerite Beach in Landéda.

The course will begin with a briefing of around 15 minutes during which the handling of the kite, the weather conditions, the rigging of the kite and the safety instructions will be explained to you.

You will then be provided with all the necessary equipment: helmet, harness and kitesurfing kite.

For courses lasting from 3 to 8 hours, a wakeboard will also be provided to you.

The Different Courses Offered

Introduction - 1 hour

The introductory course, as its name suggests, consists of an introduction to kitesurfing. The instructor will teach you how to manoeuvre the kite as well as the technical basics required to practise this sport. In particular, he will explain how to find the wind window, how to choose the size of the kite and how to choose the best spot.

Discovery - 3 hours

The discovery course includes one hour of introduction and then continues with two hours of lessons in the water. During the first hour, you will learn how to prepare your kite, tie the lines and carry out all the safety checks. You will also learn how to launch and then land your kite.

During the following two hours, which will take place in the water, you will first learn how to let yourself be pulled through the water by the kite without a board. This is called body dragging. Once you have mastered this technique, you will then be able to start learning how to get going on the board.

Improvement - 5 hours

The improvement course lasts 5 hours, during which you will spend a good part of the time in the water with the instructor

In particular, you will learn the technique for tacking. You will also learn how to manage your course. You will improve your launching and landing techniques and finally you will learn all the self-rescue techniques.  

Mastery - 8 hours

The mastery course aims to help you develop your independence in kitesurfing. Throughout the day, you will travel around the nearby Breton beaches in order to improve your technique.

For example, you will learn how to cope with light wind conditions or adapt your equipment depending on the weather. And if all the conditions are met, you may even be able to attempt your first jumps.
