With its blue-grey granite houses, cobbled streets and timeless atmosphere, Locronan provides an exceptional setting that has attracted many film directors. The village has served as the backdrop for iconic films such as Tess by Roman Polanski and Chouans! by Philippe de Broca. A Village Founded by a Saint
Locronan takes its name from Saint Ronan, a hermit who came to evangelise the region in the 5th century. The village developed around his place of retreat, becoming a unique place steeped in spirituality and tradition. Even today, the cult of Saint Ronan remains an important part of local life, particularly during the famous Troménie procession, which takes place every six years.
A Remarkable Religious Heritage
At the heart of the village stands the majestic Saint Ronan Church, a masterpiece of 15th-century Flamboyant Gothic architecture. Its square tower, stained-glass windows, sculptures and religious furnishings make it an unmissable visit. Nearby, you can also discover Notre-Dame-de-Bonne-Nouvelle Chapel, nestled in the greenery, as well as the Penity Chapel, which houses the tomb of the village's founding saint.
