Discover the Flavours of Brittany

A holiday in Brittany would not be complete without a culinary journey through its gastronomic traditions. A land of character and authenticity, Brittany offers generous cuisine inspired by the sea, the countryside and expertise passed down from generation to generation. Let yourself be guided by the aromas, flavours and local produce, and prepare to delight your taste buds.

Treasures from the Ocean

It is impossible to talk about Breton gastronomy without mentioning seafood, which holds a special place in the region's cuisine. Among the must-try dishes are fish cooked à l'armoricaine, a delicious preparation made with garlic, shallots, tomatoes and cognac. Shellfish and seafood—including Dublin Bay prawns, brown crabs, whelks and clams—are served fresh or cooked, creating seafood platters that are a source of pride for Brittany's fishing ports.

Buckwheat Galettes and Traditional Charcuterie

Another symbol of Breton cuisine is the buckwheat galette, crisp and golden, filled with ingredients such as ham, egg, cheese, andouille sausage or even seafood. It is often served with local charcuterie, such as Guémené andouille or Breton pâté. Simple yet full of flavour, these specialities are the stars of Brittany's crêperies and markets.

Crêpes, Kouign-amann and Other Sweet Treats

When it comes to desserts, Brittany has plenty to tempt you! You will no doubt enjoy wheat flour crêpes, soft and golden, served with salted butter, salted butter caramel or caramelised apples. Other delicious classics include the famous kouign-amann, a rich buttery cake, and the traditional Far Breton with prunes, perfect for ending a meal on a traditional note. And let's not forget the quatre-quarts, whose simple recipe celebrates the richness of local ingredients.

Cider and Chouchen: Brittany's Traditional Drinks

To accompany all these dishes, nothing beats a glass of Breton cider, sweet or dry, which pairs perfectly with crêpes and galettes. For the more adventurous, chouchen, an alcoholic drink made from fermented honey, offers a unique, smooth and warming tasting experience.
